Myst: Masterpiece Edition on Windows 7

Steps to install and run Myst: Masterpiece Edition on Windows 7

  • Create an image with WinCDEmu
  • Install Myst
  • Install QT4 from the CD/DVD
  • It did not work correctly (initial movies played OK, black screen with howling wind, final credits work)
  • Uninstalled QT7 (the most recent version)
  • I have tried all kinds of compatibility options, at the end, I’ve used none
  • Uninstall QT7
  • Install QT4 from the CD/DVD
  • It works, but the Cyan movie sounds bad
  • Start QuickTime, Edit | Preferences | Connection Speed
  • In the dialog, drop down to Sound Out
  • Device for Playback: waveOut: Windows’ preferred device, at 48kHz, 16bit stereo
  • Now the Cyan movies sounds OK
  • The game can be played properly now
